Bomenland - Nature

Bomenland is the oldest pine forest on the island and offers a unique mix of nature, tranquillity and impressive views. Here you can walk among coniferous and deciduous trees, spot special birds and enjoy the silence of this remarkable part of Vlieland.
What can you expect at Bomenland?
- Varied forest landscape: The forest consists of pines, spruces and deciduous trees such as birch, oak, rowan, beech and maple. In autumn you will find countless mushrooms along the walking paths.
- Historic forest: Bomenland was planted between 1903 and 1906, mainly with pines and spruces. It was formerly known as the Westerbossen. Once the young plantation grew into mature trees, it received its current name: Bomenland.
- Seasonal experiences:
- Spring: Bird lovers can enjoy large colonies of gulls.
- Summer: Walk in the cool shade of the trees while the sun blazes outside.
- Autumn: Discover a wealth of mushrooms and enjoy the warm autumn colours.
- Winter: Experience the serene silence of a forest at rest.
White walking route by Staatsbosbeheer
- Walking route: In Bomenland you will find a marked walking trail of about 3.5 kilometres (white route). It starts near the Posthuys. A delightful trip for nature lovers who enjoy peace and variety.
- Viewing points: Along the route you will pass two special viewpoints:
- Dodemsansbol bird hide: From here you have a beautiful view over the Wadden Sea and the salt marsh.
- Northern viewing platform: Looking out over the dunes and dune valleys. Especially in spring, you can see thousands of herring gulls and lesser black-backed gulls here.
Practical information
- Location: The forest is centrally located on Vlieland, west of Oost-Vlieland, near the Kroon’s Polders and the Posthuys. It is the most remote forest from the village.
- By bike: The most beautiful way to get there is by bike, via a scenic route through the dunes.
- By bus: A bus also runs to the Posthuys, from where it is only a short walk to the starting point of the walking route.
