Vlieland Groet U - Observation point

Vlieland Groet U (Vlieland greets you) is the well-known green sign on the harbour head of Vlieland. It is the first thing you see when you arrive by boat, and the last when you leave again.

What can you expect at Vlieland Groet U?

• A warm welcome: The large sign welcomes everyone visiting the island and waves you off when you head home. Over the years it has taken different forms, but the message has stayed the same.
• A view over the water: From the harbour head you look out over the Wadden Sea and watch the boats come and go. Especially in summer, islanders and visitors like to stroll here.
• Benches with a story: The bench by the sign dates from the renovation of the harbour in 2008. An earlier bench stood on the remains of a Second World War bunker with a guard post for the harbour. At the foot of the dyke there are three more benches with the same text and a number on the backrest.
