Noordoosthoek - Nature

Noordoosthoek - 1

The Northeast Corner of Vlieland, often called the Noordestoek or Noorderstoek by the islanders, is the easternmost part of the island. For many visitors, this spot is known as “going around the point.” It is a wild and unspoilt piece of nature where dunes, sea and beach meet. A walk to the eastern tip of Vlieland is a unique experience you should not miss during your stay.

What can you expect at the Northeast Corner?

The Witte Lid – Hidden Gem of the Northeast Corner

One of the highlights in the Northeast Corner is the Witte Lid, a large, high dune between the Fortweg and the campsite Stortemelk. This area was formerly known as the Oosterlid. The name probably comes from the white sand and sparsely vegetated slopes.

At the foot of this dune lies the Eastern Valley, a moist dune valley famous for its floral wealth. Here you’ll find rare orchids such as the harlequin orchid and the fragrant orchid.

The Witte Lid feels like a secret part of Vlieland: quiet, rugged and pure. Once you reach the top, a breathtaking view opens up across sea and beach. It’s the perfect spot to pause, take a deep breath and simply enjoy the beauty of the island.
